Not only is she a sun worshipper and expert when it comes to beaches, but she is also a true Zakinthini. Her family is from Zakynthos and she spent her childhood on the dreamy island.

The island is the third largest of the Ionian Islands and has a coastline of about 123 km. Niki’s Top 10 Beaches on Zakynthos

1. Shipwreck Beach (Navagio)

Navagio beach is commonly known as Shipwreck beach. It is a classic postcard motif and really blows you away when you see it with your own eyes. The pebble beach has towering cliffs and the water is so blue that you can easily convince yourself you are on a Caribbean island. The beach owes its name to the shipwreck of MV Panagiotis. It was used as a smuggler ship for cigarettes in 1980. A storm caused it to capsize. The criminal crew had already abandoned the ship before, they managed to save themselves. The disadvantage, however, was that on land the policeman were already waiting and arrested the sailors.

Navagio can only be reached by boat to this day. Therefore, it is worth either to book a place on one of the many tourist boats or to set off by yourself with a motorboat. The advantage of the second option is that you can visit the remote beach at a time when you can have it all to yourself.

2. Banana beach

Banana Beach is a long, spacious beach. Therefore, it is ideal for all sun lovers who want to spend the day moving back and forth between exactly two places: The sun lounger and the water. The only exception could be the picturesque bar at the end of the beach. A refreshment can make a hot summer day perfect.

3. Porto Azzuro

Porto Azzuro is a famous beach with stunning natural surroundings and a lively atmosphere. With its green backdrop, magnificent rock formations and bright blue waters, this beach is like something out of a picture book.

During the day, beachgoers can rent a sun lounger, swim and relax. In the evening, the beach comes to life. The wonderful beach bars are known for hosting some of the best parties on the island.

4. Agios Nikolaos

The beach of Agios Nikolaos is located next to Banana Beach. Here too there are sun loungers, umbrellas, golden sand and shallow waters along the shore.

5. Gerakas beach

If you’re more of a nature lover and prefer a quieter environment, Gerakas beach is the place to be. Sea turtles are often be spotted here, as hawksbill turtles breed on this beach. Some visitors have even been lucky enough to observe the hatching of the turtle eggs. The large bay is ideal for swimming and sunbathing. Sun chairs and umbrellas are available.

6. Tsilivi

Tsilivi, also known as Planos, is a well-known resort that combines beach with city hustle and bustle. It is located near the capital Bochali and is known for the wild nightlife.

7. Marathonisi

Marathonisi is a small island, ideal for those who want to relax in a quiet environment. From Keri beach in Laganas bay, it is only a short boat ride to reach the unspoiled area with its lush greenery. The island is so remote that there is not even a store. Day trippers must bring their own food and drinks.

8. Ksigia

Ksigia is a well-known natural seaside resort located about 20 km north of Zakynthos. The curious white waters of this beach are known for their healing properties due to the high sulfur content. If you can ignore the sulfur smell, this natural spa is as relaxing as it is unique.

The rocky beach is surrounded by caves and is home to a variety of marine life, ideal for curious divers.

10. Kalamaki Beach
